Russell Stevenson is a Ph.D. candidate at Michigan State University in African-American studies. He has written a biography of Elijah Ables, and we’re going to learn more about the first documented black man to hold the priesthood. Russell will talk about Elijah’s amazing life we’ll learn as much as we can about his life before he joined the LDS Church. Was he a slave? How many missions did he serve? When did he join the church?
We’ll also talk about the LDS Church in Africa. Did you know that Nigerians approached the LDS Church to send missionaries as early as the 1950s? There were no missions to black African countries at the time! Check out our conversation…..
